IPL 2026 Week 1 Daily Betting Tips β Your Match-by-Match SA Guide
The IPL 2026 season starts tomorrow (Saturday, March 28) and runs through May. For South African punters, the timing is perfect β matches kick off at 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM SA time, which means no late nights.
We're going to do something different this year: match-by-match betting analysis for the first week. If the IPL opener against RCB vs SRH interests you, check our detailed opening weekend guide first. This article covers the entire first week of fixtures with daily tips.
Week 1 Schedule at a Glance

|---|---|---|---|
| Saturday | March 28 | RCB vs SRH (Bengaluru) | 4:00 PM |
| Sunday | March 29 | KKR vs PBKS (Kolkata) + CSK vs MI (Chennai) | 4:00 PM + 8:00 PM |
| Monday | March 30 | DC vs RR (Delhi) + LSG vs GT (Lucknow) | 4:00 PM + 8:00 PM |

That's 10 matches in the first week. Plenty of betting action without needing accumulators (though we'll suggest a couple).
General IPL Week 1 Betting Principles
Before diving into specific matches, some golden rules for the opening week:
- Opening matches are unpredictable. Teams haven't settled into form yet. New overseas signings are adapting. Squads are still experimenting. This means value often lies in underdogs β the "better team" hasn't established themselves yet.
- Venue knowledge is everything. While teams are unfamiliar, venues don't change. Chinnaswamy is still a run-fest. Chepauk still turns. Use venue data, not team reputation, to guide your over/under bets.
- Wait for the toss. Especially in evening games where dew is a factor, the toss can shift match winner odds by 10-15%. Never place match winner bets before the toss in week 1.
- SA player knowledge is your edge. You watch these players all year. The average Indian bettor doesn't know that Klaasen has been in ridiculous form, or that Rabada's powerplay bowling has improved. Use what you know.
DAY 1 Saturday 28 March β RCB vs SRH
π Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Sunrisers Hyderabad
Venue: M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
Time: 4:00 PM SA | SA Players: Klaasen, Markram, Jansen (SRH)
We've covered this match in depth in our opening weekend guide, so we'll keep this brief.
Key angles:
- Chinnaswamy is historically the highest-scoring IPL ground. Average first innings score here exceeds 180.
- SRH were the most aggressive batting team in IPL 2025 β they hit the highest team total in IPL history (287). Their approach hasn't changed.
- RCB at home in season openers tend to produce spectacles. The crowd is wild, the pitch is flat, and both teams swing hard.
- Heinrich Klaasen at 6/1 or better for top batsman is value. He thrives at this ground.
Markets to target: Total runs over, total sixes over, top batsman (Klaasen), first innings over 175.5.
DAY 2 Sunday 29 March β Double Header
π Kolkata Knight Riders vs Punjab Kings
Venue: Eden Gardens, Kolkata
Time: 4:00 PM SA | SA Players: Check squads
KKR won IPL 2025 and they'll be fired up at Eden Gardens in front of a packed house. Punjab Kings have historically been one of the weaker IPL franchises β talented squads that underperform. They made coaching changes in the off-season, but opening-day form rarely reflects those changes.
Key angles:
- KKR's home record at Eden Gardens is strong. The crowd factor in Kolkata is massive β it's the biggest cricket stadium in the world (capacity 68,000).
- Eden Gardens is a balanced pitch β good for both batting and bowling, especially for pace in the powerplay.
- PBKS tend to start seasons slowly. They've lost their IPL opener in 7 of the last 10 seasons.
π Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians
Venue: MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
Time: 8:00 PM SA | SA Players: Gerald Coetzee (MI)
The biggest rivalry in IPL cricket. CSK vs MI is the El ClΓ‘sico of T20 cricket. But from a betting perspective, ignore the hype and focus on the venue.
Key angles:
- Chepauk is the polar opposite of Chinnaswamy. The pitch turns from day one, it's historically a lower-scoring ground, and spinners dominate.
- CSK at home at Chepauk is a fortress. They know the conditions better than anyone and stack their side with spinners.
- MI have historically struggled at Chepauk. Their batting-heavy approach doesn't translate well to turning pitches.
- Gerald Coetzee (MI) β his raw pace could be effective in the powerplay before the pitch takes turn. Watch for powerplay wickets markets.
Markets to target: CSK match winner (wait for toss), total runs under, highest individual score under 60.5, first innings under 165.5.
DAY 3 Monday 30 March β Double Header
π Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals
Venue: Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi
Time: 4:00 PM SA | SA Players: NortjΓ©, Stubbs (DC)
The Delhi pitch traditionally offers something for pace bowlers, especially early on. NortjΓ© thrives here β he's played for Delhi for years and knows the conditions.
Key angles:
- Delhi's pitch has become more balanced in recent years, but the first few games of the season tend to have more pace assistance.
- NortjΓ© at odds of 4/1 or better for top bowler is often value at this ground.
- Tristan Stubbs β if batting at 5 or 6, he's a sleeper pick for top batsman at bigger odds. His power game suits the death overs.
- Rajasthan Royals have a strong squad but no standout SA connection for us to leverage.
π Lucknow Super Giants vs Gujarat Titans
Venue: BRSABV Ekana Stadium, Lucknow
Time: 8:00 PM SA | SA Players: de Kock (LSG), Rabada, Miller (GT)
This is the SA punter's match. De Kock, Rabada, and Miller all in the same game. Lucknow's ground tends to be batting-friendly with true bounce.
Key angles:
- Quinton de Kock loves an IPL opener. He tends to go hard from ball one, and the Lucknow pitch suits his style.
- Kagiso Rabada β if the pitch has any pace, he's lethal. Top bowler market is always worth checking for Rabada at any venue.
- David Miller at decent odds for top batsman is a roll of the dice β he bats lower in the order, so he needs overs, but when he gets in, he's destructive.
- Lucknow is a newer IPL venue with less historical data, but the pitch has generally been good for batting.
DAYS 4-7 Midweek Matches (March 31 β April 3)
The midweek matches are harder to preview this far out because team form from the opening fixtures will influence selections. But here are the venue-based angles:
SRH vs LSG β Hyderabad (March 31)
Rajiv Gandhi International is a good batting strip. Klaasen at home will be motivated. De Kock opens for LSG. This game could be a high-scoring SA showcase. Lean: Over on total runs + SA player props.
RCB vs KKR β Bengaluru (April 1)
Another Chinnaswamy game. We already know what this ground does β big scores, lots of sixes, second innings advantage with dew. Lean: Total sixes over, first innings over 170.5.
MI vs DC β Mumbai (April 2)
Wankhede Stadium is another run-scoring paradise. Short straight boundaries, pace-friendly in the powerplay, then batting-friendly in the middle overs. NortjΓ© vs the Wankhede's short boundaries could produce either brilliance or carnage. Coetzee bowling here too. Lean: Total runs over, NortjΓ©/Coetzee for powerplay wickets.
GT vs CSK β Ahmedabad (April 2)
Narendra Modi Stadium is the world's biggest cricket ground (132,000 capacity). The pitch has been variable β some games high-scoring, others low. Hard to call without early-season data. Lean: Wait for form indicators from day 1-3 before betting this fixture.
PBKS vs RR β Mohali (April 3)
Mohali is a solid batting wicket with good pace and bounce. Punjab at home will be desperate for a win after likely losing to KKR. Desperation can mean aggressive cricket β which benefits the "over" market. Lean: Total runs over, back whichever team wins the toss to bat second.
Week 1 Accumulator Ideas
If you want to build a small accumulator across the first week, here are two approaches. Use our accumulator calculator to price these up.
Safe Accumulator (3 legs)
- RCB vs SRH total runs OVER 330.5 (Chinnaswamy factor)
- KKR to beat PBKS (defending champs at home vs historically weak opener)
- CSK vs MI total runs UNDER 340.5 (Chepauk spin conditions)
This combines venue knowledge with a form-based pick. Three legs keeps the risk manageable.
Value Accumulator (4 legs)
- Klaasen top batsman vs RCB (Chinnaswamy + his form)
- CSK to beat MI at Chepauk (fortress record)
- NortjΓ© to take 2+ wickets vs RR (Delhi pace conditions)
- De Kock top batsman vs GT (powerplay aggression at batting-friendly Lucknow)
Higher risk, higher reward. Each leg has a solid rationale, but player-level bets are inherently volatile. Stake small.
BetSorted reminder: Accumulators are fun but risky. Never stake more than 2-5% of your bankroll on an accumulator, no matter how confident you are. Read our accumulator betting guide for strategy tips, and use the bankroll management guide to keep your betting sustainable.

Key Takeaways for IPL Week 1
- Know your venues. Chinnaswamy = over. Chepauk = under. Wankhede = over. Delhi = pace bowlers. This is the foundation of IPL betting.
- Wait for the toss. Especially in evening games. Dew changes the game.
- Back SA players you know. Klaasen, de Kock, Rabada β you watch them all year. Use that knowledge.
- Week 1 is volatile. Upsets are common. Don't over-invest in favourites. Small stakes, multiple angles.
- Compare odds. Gbets vs Betway vs Hollywoodbets β the 3-5% difference in cricket odds matters over 70+ IPL matches.
Good luck this week. We'll update this article as matches are played and we learn more about 2026 conditions. Bet smart, gamble responsibly, and enjoy the cricket. π
