Springboks 2026 Nations Championship Betting Preview: Fixtures, Odds & Markets

Published February 27, 2026 • 10 min read • Brandon Katz

2026 is a massive year for the Springboks. The inaugural Nations Championship replaces the old touring window format, and South Africa's schedule is absolutely loaded. England, Scotland, and Wales at home in July. Four Tests against the All Blacks (including one in Baltimore). Then Italy, France, and Ireland in November. Nine Nations Championship matches plus a Barbarians warm-up — this is the most ambitious Bok calendar in recent memory.

For SA punters, this means months of Springbok betting opportunities. Here's your early guide to the fixtures, markets to watch, and where to get the best odds. Compare bookmaker prices on our odds comparison page.

What is the Nations Championship?

The Nations Championship is rugby's answer to the question nobody could agree on: how do you create a proper annual competition between the Six Nations teams and the Rugby Championship teams?

The format brings together all 12 teams from the Six Nations and Rugby Championship into a single league-style competition. Each team plays nine matches across the July and November windows, facing all six opponents from the other hemisphere (three at home, three away). Results from the Rugby Championship count towards the overall Nations Championship standings.

This means every Springbok Test match in 2026 — except the Barbarians warm-up — counts towards the Nations Championship table. There's a proper league, proper standings, and a genuine title to play for. It's a significant upgrade from the old system of "friendly" touring matches that everyone pretended weren't friendlies.

For bettors, this changes things. Outright markets are available for who wins the Nations Championship. Individual match betting will be sharper because every game matters in the standings. And with a league table in play, you can bet on finishing positions, top performers, and long-range markets that weren't previously available for international rugby.

July Window: England, Scotland, Wales at Home

South Africa vs England — July 4, Ellis Park

The blockbuster opener. Springboks vs England at Ellis Park to kick off the Nations Championship. These two have history — World Cup finals, bruising Tours, and a rivalry that needs no introduction. England under Steve Borthwick have been rebuilding, but they showed in 2025 that they're competitive again.

At Ellis Park and at altitude, the Springboks will be heavy favourites. The question isn't whether SA will win — it's by how much. The handicap market will be where the value is. Expect the Boks to be around -10 to -14 on the spread. If England's pack can't deal with the physicality and the altitude in the second half, it could be wider.

Early market thought: Springboks -10.5 looks like the line to beat. Over 45.5 total points if both teams play with tempo in the Ellis Park sunshine.

South Africa vs Scotland — July 11, Loftus

Scotland have become genuinely good under Gregor Townsend — they beat England in the 2025 Six Nations, they run a smart, structured game, and they've got quality across the park. But they've never beaten the Springboks in South Africa, and Loftus at altitude will test them severely.

This should be a Bok win, but Scotland are capable of keeping it competitive for 60 minutes. The question is whether they can sustain their game plan when the altitude starts biting in the final quarter. The under on total points might be the play here — Scotland will try to control tempo and keep the score tight.

Early market thought: Springboks to win + under 44.5 total points. Scotland will make this scrappier than England will.

South Africa vs Wales — July 18, Kings Park

With all due respect to Wales, this is the most one-sided fixture on the calendar. The Springboks beat Wales 73-0 in 2025, and while Wales have been in a genuine rebuilding phase, the gap in quality is enormous right now. Kings Park in Durban isn't at altitude, but the Boks won't need it.

The main betting interest here is the handicap. How many points will the Boks win by? The over/under on total points could be interesting too — if South Africa score 50+, the over will fly. Try scorer markets offer value if you can pick the right Bok wing or fullback to bag a double or treble.

Early market thought: Springboks -30.5 handicap. Seriously. After 73-0, the line will be enormous and it might still not be enough.

The All Blacks Series: Rugby's Greatest Rivalry

Four Tests against New Zealand across August and September. Two in Joburg, one in Cape Town, one in Baltimore. This is the main event of the Bok calendar and arguably the biggest series in world rugby in 2026.

The Springboks demolished the All Blacks 43-10 in their last meeting in 2024, but anyone who writes off New Zealand is a fool. They'll be desperate to restore pride, and Scott Robertson's coaching has added new dimensions to their game.

For bettors, the series format creates unique markets:

Early market thought: Springboks to win the series 3-1 looks like the most likely outcome. All Blacks will probably win the Baltimore Test (neutral venue, no altitude, and NZ are historically good at winning the "dead rubber").

November Tour: Italy, France, Ireland

The Boks finish the year with three massive away Tests in Europe. Italy in early November, then France, then Ireland to close out the Nations Championship campaign.

Italy has improved enormously but still can't live with the Boks consistently. France at home is always a beast — the Stade de France crowd, their enormous pack, and their flair in the backline make them the toughest European opponent. Ireland at Lansdowne Road is where the Boks' Nations Championship title hopes could be decided.

If the Springboks sweep July and take the All Blacks series, they could arrive in November needing just one or two wins to clinch the inaugural Nations Championship. The Ireland match on November 21 could be a title decider. Expect that match to attract enormous betting volume.

Early market thought: Beat Italy, split France and Ireland. The November tour is where outright Nations Championship betting gets really interesting.

Outright and Long-Range Markets

Betting Strategy for the Bok Calendar

Here's how to approach the Springboks' 2026 schedule as a bettor:

  1. Bet outright markets early. The Springboks' Nations Championship winner price will shorten after July if they sweep England, Scotland, and Wales. Lock in value now.
  2. Respect the altitude. Three of the first four Bok Tests are at altitude (Joburg or Pretoria). Home advantage + altitude = Bok domination. Handicaps should be large.
  3. The All Blacks series is where money is made or lost. Four Tests means four separate bets plus a series winner market. Don't go all-in on one match. Spread your exposure.
  4. November is the hedge window. If the Boks are cruising after the All Blacks series, the odds on them winning the Nations Championship will be tiny. This is when you either cash out or hedge with a bet on Ireland or France to beat them.
  5. Use accumulators sparingly. It's tempting to build a multi across Bok matches, but injuries, form dips, and European conditions make long accumulators risky. Keep it to doubles or trebles. Run the numbers with our accumulator calculator.

FAQ

What is the Nations Championship?

The Nations Championship is a new annual rugby competition that combines the Six Nations teams and the Rugby Championship teams into a single league. Each team plays nine matches across the July and November windows. It replaces the old touring system with a proper competition format — league table, title, the works.

When do Springbok Nations Championship betting markets open?

Outright markets (Nations Championship winner, series winner) are typically available months in advance — check Betway and Sportingbet now. Individual match markets usually open 1-2 weeks before each fixture. For the July Tests, expect match betting to open in mid-June.

Are the Springboks favourites to win the Nations Championship?

As back-to-back World Cup champions, the Springboks are among the favourites alongside Ireland and France. With three home July Tests plus a four-match All Blacks series (three at altitude), SA have a schedule that favours them. Early outright odds reflect this — the Boks are short but still offer some value if you believe they'll navigate November successfully.

Why is the Springboks vs All Blacks match in Baltimore?

World Rugby is expanding the sport's footprint in the United States ahead of future events. The Baltimore Test at M&T Bank Stadium is part of this push — a marquee Springboks vs All Blacks match on American soil. For bettors, the neutral venue and no altitude factor make this the most unpredictable match of the All Blacks series.

Which bookmaker has the best rugby odds in South Africa?

Betway typically offers the best range of rugby markets and most competitive odds for Springbok Tests. Sportingbet is worth checking for individual match prices. Always compare before placing — our odds comparison tool makes this easy.
